Why these tropes fit
Stranded at an airport, Ted Severson strikes up a conversation with the magnetic stranger Lily Kintner at the bar. Over too many martinis, Ted confesses that his wife is having an affair and that he wishes her dead. Without hesitation, Lily volunteers to help him carry out the murder. The novel traces their dark, seemingly instantaneous pact as they conspire to kill Ted's unfaithful spouse.
